MILLENNIUM PARK
VIRIDIS Design Group provided professional planning and design services to the Kent County Parks Department for this 1500 acre park reclamation of the former sand and gravel mining operation. VIRIDIS was responsible for leading the process through all phases of the project including schematic design, agency permitting and reviews, construction documentation, bidding, and construction administration. Additionally, the design of all site-related improvements including the paved and soft surface trails, elevated boardwalks, overlook decks, bridges, grading, stormwater management, and native planting were led by the design team.
In conjunction with the leadership of the owner and financial support from the project donor, VIRIDIS met the challenge of melding the project vision with the realities of the site’s opportunities and constraints, while adhering to the “Millennium Standard” of restoring the land’s ecological health and biodiversity and creating a recreational place that is equitable, socially just, and accessible to all.
